Hello Friends,
And just like that, it’s National Poetry Month, our favourite month and our month to shine! I (Emily) have been trying to write daily over at my personal Substack. Julia and I have also been writing poems together, using our Tortured Poetry Prompts in anticipation of Taylor Swift’s new album.
Honestly, the past few months weren’t as productive as I had envisioned. I didn’t read as much as I would like to. I felt a lot of resistance around reading and writing. Then last week, I got a weird injury. I accidentally cut myself with an immersion blender. I don’t know what this means, really, but I realize that I haven’t been as intentional about my life as I want to be. I don’t know how true this is, but apparently, the new year used to begin around April 1st according to the Julien Calendar. Whether it is true or not, I am using this month as a month to reset my writing. I recently downloaded this app to limit my scrolling around my writing time and bedtime. I am sleeping better, reading better, and writing more because of it. I would use sheer willpower if I could, but right now, I don’t have that. I’m an elder Millennial and bad habits die hard.
Speaking of new beginnings, I (Julia) welcomed the newest member of our family into the world two weeks ago! I’ve been adjusting to the new rhythm that a sweet newborn brings, and with that comes a lot less time for writing. So for now, I’m doing what I can to enjoy baby bliss and to have fun writing poetry this April with less pressure. Here is my daughter in her Easter best:

To kickstart National Poetry Month, we are sharing some of our favourite poems from our favourite poets:
Hope you’ve enjoyed this first week of poetry month! Have a blessed week.
